Scabbers is a pet. It's Ron Weasley's rat. He has been in the Weasley family for 12 years (at the time of the events of the third volume) when Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban prison. From then on, the rat loses weight and flees. Harry, Ron and Hermione learn that it is actually an animagus: Peter Pettigrew. They then discover that it was he, and not Sirius, who betrayed James and Lily Potter. Scabbers is endowed with no gift and has no magic power.

Washing tips
